STEP 1: An underscarf is highly recommended under any hijab that is a bit narrow or transparent. The underscarf keeps your scarf from slipping and also allows you to wear the scarf further back on your head because your hairline is covered by the underscarf.
Wear the underscarf like a headband, with the bottom tucked under your hair. Cover your ears to keep them from showing through under a light-colored or slightly transparent hijab.
STEP 2: Place the scarf on the crown of your head, with about 1/3 the total length of the scarf on one side and 2/3 on the other side.
STEP 3: Pin the scarf under your chin the same way you would pin a triangular hijab. Use a small flat pin like a safety pin, or weave a straight pin between the two layers of fabric. Make sure when you pin it that the shorter side is closest to your chin with the longer side on top of it.
STEP 4: Take the longer piece of the scarf in your hand and wrap it around the back of your head, about halfway between the crown of your head and the top of your neck. Exactly how high or low you wrap it depends on the shape of your head, but keep in mind that the lower your wear it, the more it will cover the back of your neck and shoulders (this is especially important with a narrower hijab).
STEP 5: Continue to bring the long end all the way around your head and pin it under your chin or at the side of your head just under your ear.
STEP 6: It helps to secure the outer layer of the fabric to the the layer underneath by weaving a straight pin between the two layers of fabric. Pin one on each side of your head and your hijab will stay in place all day. Those straight pins with the colored balls on top which are used in sewing work well, and you can even match the color to your scarf.
This is how it looks from the back:
